In the 1930′s then a man named Stanley Burroughs launched a detox program called the Master Cleanser, you may have heard it referred to as the lemonade diet at times too. It is still incredibly popular today, probably more so than when it was released, but people mistakenly treat it like a diet which is not what it is at all. The problem with using it as a weight loss system is that the weight you do lose will be a combination of water and muscle mass along with a small amount of fat, which is not what you want to be losing.
The basic idea behind it is that instead of eating for 10 days then you instead you drink a lemonade mixture which is made of maple syrup, lemon juice, water and cayenne pepper. That particular combination of ingredients is supposed to help clean out your intestines and detoxify them, plus provide you with energy. As you aren’t eating fiber like you normally would, then instead you need to take a laxative to help move things through your system.
With people complaining all the time about how restrictive a typical diet is then you would imagine that something this extreme and restrictive would be avoided like the plague, but in actual fact it is becoming more and more popular, spurred on in part by the fact some high profile celebrities have admitted using it. In fact a spate of books have been launched recently which try to capitalize on its popularity and offer suggestions on how to improve it, and there are digital guides too like Master Cleanse Secrets which are cashing in too.
It is in no way, shape or form a diet though, and was never planned to be, and yet some people are following it explicitly to lose weight, and some are taking it to extremes like saying they will follow it for a month to help them lose more weight! Instead of following some crazy diet for 2 weeks then instead you need to commit yourself to following a healthy and sustainable weight loss program for months instead to make sure you lose weight and learn how to eat properly.
If you hate the idea of a traditional diet though then you could instead go for one which replaces meals with a substitute, like Slim Fast which has you drink special milkshakes for breakfast and lunch and then you cook your own healthy evening meal afterwards. Making the shakes is easy and because you don’t need to worry about making a healthy meal for breakfast and lunch then it frees up a lot of time, which is great if you are really busy at work.
If you are dead set on following the detox system we have discussed though, then one thing that is vital is that you check with your doctor before you start to see if they know of a reason why you shouldn’t do it. There are other options if you want to detox though, there are other systems you can follow at home, and kits you can buy, or you can pay to go on a residential retreat where a set of staff guide you through their own process and make sure you are ok throughout it all.
