Relationships are not always as smooth sailing as what we see in the movies. But so is producing honey, the real honey. It’s not even very profitable, which is why commercial honey is very artificial and tastes artificial too. The taste of the real honey from the bee’s are incomparable.
That is why I have considered beginning beekeeping; to taste the richness of the real honey. Beekeeping can benefit you well because of its produce: no artificial honey flavors. Don’t think so much about profits because it doesn’t earn much.
Generally you can get almost 60 pounds of sweet honey per year for each hive that you have. Real honey tastes so sweet, which is why for commercial purposes, honey is mixed with other ingredients for mass production. This is when it becomes profitable. A pound of honey can already produce as much as five bottles of honey, with the right ingredients. Because of this reason the original sweet taste of honey is lost in commercially available ones.
The downside though is that beekeeping is dangerous. Beginning beekeeping requires you to have some know how to prevent any unwanted accidents such as bee stings. There are even short courses about starting beekeeping that you can take.
Dr. R. Iacobucci said that beekeeping can be intellectually stimulating. This was a surprise to me because most people fear bees, but Iacobucci said that bees have fascinating behavior and there is a ritual and communication involved among them when they produce the honey. He even provided a video presentation so that you can further understand the behavior of bees. This is relatively advantageous in beginning beekeeping and ultimately having the honey that you want.
In starting beekeeping, one must have sufficient space or area. Make sure that you do not place it in an area where people, especially children can easily wander off as bees can be deadly.
However, hives have evolved. While it used to be just on any tree, hives can now be contained in repositories that also limit the bees inside. Bees are quite comfortable actually in just a small area. These containers come in a wide variety such as winter protection.
Beekeeping is also viable in urban areas, although, the law has not yet been very open-minded with this. Guidelines must be followed to prevent the bees from attacking people and possibly killing some. Water can be used to guide the bees to the direction that you want them to go so that they wont go out and attack the citizens.
