When it comes time to purchase something many people make hasty decisions and buy whatever they see first off the net or at a shop or they choose the cheapest price or the biggest size like when purchasing a new TV (big screen image but fuzzy picture).
I prefer the opposite way and research a product to discover the absolute best item I can because I want something that is going to work great and last me for a long time.
Because of this, I get a great item and save money by not having to buy a replacement as often because I spend just a little more to get a good quality product the first time.
Let me tell you a story about my friend to get my point across. My friend likes to purchase things and is always on the hunt for what he thinks is a bargain whether it is from the internet or at a store.
It seems like he is always getting something new and I can predict what will occur soon after he gets something. He will either return the item because it doesn’t work like he thought it would (lack of any research) or he will have to replace the item sooner than he expected because it broke (buying the least expensive item).
I suppose if you enjoy going through the repetitive cycle of getting new stuff all the time then I guess that is just fine but I would prefer to spend my time doing other things and not having to constantly be buying a new TV or stove.
Here‘s an example of how I would go about buying something new for myself. Let’s say I am wanting to purchase a new convection toaster oven and want a model that will last me for more than a year.
I would head on over to Amazon and read all of the reviews from anyone that had already bought toaster ovens and look for the most highly rated models and brands.
I would next get an overall ”feel’” for the item from these reviews always keeping in mind that some of the highest and lowest rated reviews will most likely be what I like to call call “outliers“. I look for what the majority of buyers say about the product and then check for any additional reviews from other places that support them.
After I’ve decided that model ”X” is the highest I lnext ook at the cost to make sure it is reasonable. If it is I will purchase it knowing that I have made a good choice particularly if there are any other competing name brands for close to the same cost that are rated lower (which is usually the case).
Important Idea: Just because it is a name brand doesn’t always mean it is a good one. Quality can vary greatly even within lines from the same company!
Another way to view it is like this, you can purchase a new toaster oven for under $100 that probably will work great for 1 or 2 years and then break so you have to replace it like my friend or you can spend $250 one time and get a great toaster oven like the Breville toaster oven model BOV800XL that will last for years.
If you spend a little time upfront before you get something like a breville toaster oven you can avoid the vicious circle my friend goes through by buying the best product for your home at the most reasonable cost and not be annoyed because all of your stuff keeps breaking.
